Hey Amber

We may finally be dealing with teething around here. And, if it's indeed the real thing, none of us are fans.

It's sure made for some difficult days and nights.

We've been trying the usual stuff to keep our girl comfortable. We offer her good teethers and cool washcloths to gnaw on. Both seem to help when the pain is bearable. We're also trying an amber necklace. As in, amber the stone (or, to be more accurate, natural resin). We bought it over the weekend at a great little baby shop up the street. Here's what it looks like.

Using amber was a totally new idea to me until about a year ago when I heard a friend talk about it. She said it made all the difference in the world when her son was teething. Apparently, as it warms with the body's natural temperature, it releases oils onto the skin that have been used over the course of history to soothe joint pain, stomachaches, arthritic ailments, and, as we now know, teething pain (among other things). Amber really has a long and interesting history. Here's a short article if you're interested in reading more about it.

Honestly, we were a little skeptical about actually using the necklace, but we're not so much now. We think she's been teething for about 4 days. Day 1 was not so hot (she didn't wear the necklace at all), Day 2 was not so hot in the morning (we put the necklace on her late morning), Day 3 was not so hot (she didn't wear the necklace at all) and Day 4 was great (she wore the necklace all day). Coincidence? Maybe. But, maybe not.

We're finding the whole thing kind of interesting!

Don't worry, we'll keep you updated.
