Animal Noises

In addition to her growing vocabulary, which deserves a blog post of its own, Emma is an excellent impersonator of many an animal.

She meows like a cat, barks like a dog, neighs like a horse, baaas like a sheep, moos like a cow, trumpets like an elephant, and roars like a lion.

She also quacks like a duck. She takes her quacking very seriously, as you can see.

(You might want to turn up your volume for this one.)

Emma's Moves

At the Children's Museum, there's a neat little area to play in that resembles a town. Inside the town is a grocery store, restaurant, doctor's office, and post office; a street even runs through it. Kids can wear various costumes (for example, a bus driver's costume) and act like who they're dressed as. There are also lots of props around, so if you want to go shopping for groceries at the grocery store (that really looks like a grocery store, only miniature), there is food to put in your cart and check out areas where you can buy your groceries. The exhibit is so much fun.

Well, in the town is also a little night club. It's usually really busy so we hadn't gone in there much...until recently, that is. We went one night when the museum was really slow and decided to check it out. In the night club, you can pick music you want to dance to (they have everything from classical music to Smash Mouth), and then you can go up on stage and dance with various instruments or just by yourself. There's a little TV mounted up high so that you can watch yourself on stage, and the background on it makes it feel like you're in a music video. Da-da was working the night that Emma and I discovered the night club, so just she and I rocked out. That was a sight, I'm sure!

Da-da and Emma visited later in the week, and when they did, she showed him what the night club was all about. He took a few videos while they were there, and I love them more than words can say. I die every time I see them. It's the little stomp she does, I think, (in addition to, like, 9 million other things).

You shall see.

Cue the cuteness.

Off We Go

Before Emma took me for a "walk" around the neighborood, we went to the park. We go to the park a lot because it's close and a way of being outside without being at the splash pad or somewhere else where it would feel too cold this time of year. We're basically milking fall for all it's worth. And, actually, that's going quite well. It's been in the 70s and 80s lately!

On our way out the door, Emma wanted to hang out on the side of our house where, as you know, we have her slide and water table. We had been keeping her water table covered, but she thought maybe she'd give it a try anyway.

Then, as she always does when we're on the side of the house, she headed towards our tomatoes (slyly, if you can see that). One of her favorite things to do is pick tomatoes. While she knows to pick just the red ones, she likes picking so much that the occasional green one gets picked, too. She has some quick fingers, I tell you.

Tomato in hand, we then went inside, because we couldn't possibly turn down the chance to eat a fresh tomato.

Finally, off we go!

To be continued.

Follow The Leader

You are cordially invited to a walk around the block.

With Emma.

I just played photographer and preventer-of-many-a-disaster. Minor role, but necessary.

(Grin.)

Emma was really excited about leading the way on our walk, and set off on foot across the street (disaster #1 averted), to the house where she knows a garden of sunflowers is.

Turning around to make sure I'm following her.

Thinking it's really funny that I am following her.

With a sunflower in hand (thanks, neighbors!),

she walked to the house that always has fun ride-on toys outside of it. She tested one to make sure it worked (sorry, neighbors!),

and was broken-hearted when I told her we couldn't take it home.

Luckily, across the street again (disaster #2 averted), an interesting sprinkler saved the day.

About this time, all of the hard walking and playing necessitated a break. On the sidewalk.

And, of course, on the steps of a local business (thanks, local business owner!).

Then, we headed home. To a nearby apartment building (disaster #3 averted - we don't live in an apartment building).

Thanks for coming along!
