First Pediatrician Appointment

The week Emma was born we took her to her first doctor's appointment. To tell you the truth I'm surprised we made it there on time. It was our first real outing and we learned first hand how much preparation goes into leaving the house with a baby. Everyone has to be clean and dressed, Emma has to be strapped into her car seat, the car seat has to be snapped into its base, and a diaper bag has to be packed and brought along in case she needs an outfit or diaper change. No more quick trips to Target for this Mama!

Anyway, I digress. We love the clinic and her pediatrician. The clinic is cute on the inside and everyone is really friendly. It is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and same day appointments are never hard to get. It's also close to school, which is nice.

So, how did our girl do at her first appointment?

Great! The doctor answered all of our questions and took a good look at Emma, who she said was perfect. All babies lose a little weight after birth. Emma lost 4 ounces. When we took her back a few days later to have her checked for jaundice (which she didn't have) she had already gained back 2 ounces. And, when we went to see a lactation consultant the other day, she weighed 8 pounds, which is 7 ounces above her birth weight! So, all in all, she's getting enough to eat and growing. Her doctor was happy and we were too. Her next appointment is in 2 weeks when she hits a month old. That appointment should be a breeze. It's the 2 month appointment I'm dreading . It's when she starts her vaccinations. Someone might need to hold my hand and buy me a drink afterwards.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

TB has been super busy at work lately. Today was the first day he was able to stop working after 8 hours since Emma was born. Typically he's out of the house at dawn and home again between 8pm and 9pm. When that's your schedule every single day, it gets pretty exhausting! I'm sure you won't be surprised, then, to hear he went straight to bed as soon as he arrived home. Here are my loves doing what they do best. Aren't they cute? The two of them slept like that for a good 3 hours.

Cordless

Check out this cute little belly button!

Miss Emma lost her cord. And you're going to be so shocked when I tell you it happened at the golf course. Really, what doesn't happen to us at the golf course?!

Anyway, it was a big event. Emma celebrated with a little milk. I celebrated with a Summer Shandy. And Tyler celebrated with a Newcastle.

A Spin Around The Block

Yesterday we took Emma for her first walk in our neighborhood. It was so great to get out and about after sticking close to home for the first week.

Here's TB with EB,

Me with EB,

And EB alone. As you can tell she thoroughly enjoyed our walk! Who wouldn't? It was a perfect Minnesota summer day - sunny and 70 degrees.

Our New Family

The time has come! Tyler and I are officially on our own with Emma. It feels strange not having our families here anymore. I especially miss my Mom. She practically waited on me and Emma all week because Tyler had to go back to work on Wednesday. I don't know what I would have done without her. One thing is for sure, I probably wouldn't have eaten, showered, or brushed my teeth in a week!

We can't wait to share with you all that we've been up to. Emma is the most beautiful and easy going baby. She hardly cries, and when she does, it's only for a moment because she is hungry or needs to be changed. Both are easy fixes. She's also a champ eater. In the delivery room, our doula said she had never seen a baby latch on as quickly as Emma did.

We have lots of blog posts planned for this week: Emma's first bath at home, her first trip to the golf course (including her first ride in a cart), and her first trip to the pediatrician. Stay tuned!

But, of course, here's your Emma fix for the day.

We are here....

So while we were enjoying a nice salad and popcorn before heading out to play a round of golf at the course guess what happened? Sploosh...the water broke. As Chad (the bartender) and our group of members - the Orphans - cheered us on, we were off to the hospital.

Stay tuned....

Timberrrrr

Check out what we came home to last night!

This huge tree came down on our patio and driveway. Apparently a good gust of wind hit it in just the right place at the right time. Thank goodness neither of us were home at the time! Tyler's car would have been crushed (...the picture doesn't do the size of the tree justice) and mine would have been stuck in the garage for a few days. We're also lucky it didn't hit our house. It would have easily broken a few windows and the girl below (the one sporting the baby Romo jersey...obviously) could have gotten loose.

We're so lucky!

We're Back! 38 Weeks

Pregnancy Quiz:

How Far Along Are You? 38 weeks.

Total Weight Gain? Still 30 pounds. Apparently women don't gain much weight the last few weeks. I'm not sure why but I'm definitely not complaining!

Maternity Clothes? Yes! But can't wait to pack them up and lend them to a friend who is 16 weeks...

Sleep? Very good.

Best Moment This Week? Going to the doctor and playing my best round of golf ever. I'm telling you, Emma has been so good for my golf game. Of course, so has my great coach who just happens to be my husband.

Movement? Yes, she rolls around a lot and pushes parts of her body out. It's pretty obvious to anyone in my vacinity!

Food Cravings? Sweets and french fries. When I look back on this pregnancy, sweets are definitely what I craved most.

Gender? Still a girl, we hope :)

Labor Signs? Getting closer! We're 11 days from our due date and can't wait.

Belly Button In or Out? In.

What Do You Miss? This answer will probably stay pretty consistent from here on out! Bending over to pick something up or tie my shoes.

What Are You Looking Forward To? Our next doctor's appointment, which is on Tuesday.

Milestones? "Hitting the growth charts at close to 7 pounds and the 20-inch mark (give or take an inch or two), your little one isn't so little anymore. In fact, baby's big enough for the big time - and the big day. With only two weeks left in utero, all systems are (almost) go. To finish getting ready for her close-up (and all of those photo ops), baby has a few last-minute details to take care of, like shedding that skin-protecting vernix and lanugo. And producing more surfactant, which will prevent the air sacs in the lungs from sticking to each other when your baby begins to breathe - something your baby will be doing very soon. Baby will be here before you know it!" (What to Expect When You're Expecting, 2008).

Internet Down

Sorry to not bring you your Monday morning blog post, dear readers :( Our internet is down at home. It happens once every few months and we aren't sure why. I'd say the timing is pretty bad given we're due to have a baby next weekend, wouldn't you agree?! Be back soon, and have a great Monday!
