New Hat
Towards the end of summer, we went to Target in search of a hat to go with Emma's winter coat.
I thought I'd be proactive about finding one since cute hats sell out pretty quickly up in these parts. I'm not sure why that's the case ;)
We happened to stop on the perfect day because a new line of hats had just hit the shelves.
There were some contenders,
...the kitty hat, of course!
I thought at one point that we might have to take kitty hat back to exchange it for a plain hat because Emma was only interested in playing with her kitty hat and wanted nothing to do with wearing it.
Luckily, she came around, just in time for those cooler temperatures.

Two Toddlers For A Day
Speaking of babysitting a few weeks ago, we did a little of it ourselves. A couple who took our birth classes with us was in a bind and needed someone to watch their little guy for a day. Of course, we were happy to help. They're a great couple and have a great kiddo.
Asher is just a week younger than Emma, so we were really excited to see them play together. Here are some pictures we took.
Asher "cooking" something yummy.
I cannot believe he is [fill in the blank]!
They followed each other around a lot and took turns sitting in Emma's chair.
They also stacked lots of things.
Happy guy.
I have no idea :)
Asher stacking by himself. He had incredible patience and would sit for several minutes doing the same activity. Emma tended to move from activity to activity more quickly, unless she was reading her books.
Sharing so nicely (and seriously).
A boy and his taxicab, a girl and her dog.
They were hardly one foot from each other the entire day.
Vroom, vroom! This little guy loves vehicles of all kinds more than I can tell you.
Super blurry, but Emma insisted on being the one to feed Asher his bottles. She was so happy she could have died and gone to heaven.
It was a really fun day, as you can see. We didn't capture in pictures things like their snacks/meals (they waved at each other a lot from their respective high chairs) or naps.
Wait, did I say naps? Oops! Turns out, neither one of them took one. They played all day long, hardly pausing once. They were both so pooped by the end of the day that Asher was sleeping about a minute after his Mama came to get him; Emma fell asleep during dinner and her bath (which I didn't know was even possible!).

"Big Kid" Playground
There are two playgrounds by our house. One is for smaller kids like babies and toddlers, and one is for big kids. We've always avoided the "big kid" playground because the slides are pretty steep, but we decided that Emma was probably ready to give it a go. She's a mean slider.
Here are Da-da and Emma arriving at the playground, which is actually at a nearby elementary school. Emma's sporting her PJs because this was a post dinner and bath adventure.
These are a few of the big slides. I told you...steep!
We decided she might be big enough to tackle this one, as long as Mama was at the bottom and Da-da was there to coach her down.
When Emma saw Da-da on his belly,
she decided that was the way she should come down, too!
There was not just sliding fun to be had. Emma "walked" up this wall,
went across the zip line (she can actually hold her weight, which is pretty amazing),
and played with these. I think they're a take on handle bars?
You might be surprised to learn that the only thing she won't touch with a ten-foot pole at any playground is a swing. We've tried and tried to show her that swings can be fun (and other not scary adjectives), but we're sliders, not swingers. Maybe next summer we'll be both.
We hope to squeeze out a few more fun days at the playground before it gets too cold!

Emma is still a little too young to go down this slide by herself, so we put her on a bump and she slid down just the second half. It's still much faster than the slides at her other playground, and she liked it so much that she immediately signed "more!" She slid down it probably 20 times.

Cowboys Watch Party
Sorry about the sporadic blog posts these days, beloved readers. I'm not losing interest in blogging at all. In fact, I spend all kinds of time during the day wishing I could post about this or that but then thinking I really don't have time to post about this or that because I have this or that to do related to research or teaching or toddler raising or being a wife.
I hope you'll bear with me through December, when life will get a little easier.
Now that that's out of the way, did you catch the Cowboys game this weekend? We did. Or, I should say, Da-da caught all of it while Emma and I caught part of it. We usually start our bedtime routine around 7:30, which was game time.
Before bedtime, though, we took some pictures.
And, just before the game started, Da-da read Emma a book.
Emma wasn't much into the game once it started, but Da-da was, so some pages were delayed. She didn't mind one bit. She understands his love for the Cowboys.
Maybe next she'll say "Go Cowboys!"

I also managed to get a video of her saying a few things: "Da-da," Ma-ma," "Kitty," and maybe even "Hi Kitty." She says "Hi Kitty" whenever we come into our house after being gone. It's really cute. And, speaking of cute, I almost die when she says "Ma-ma." While she typically says "Da-da" in a very commanding voice at the top of her lungs (I need to get that on video!), she says "Ma-ma" super softly and sweetly.
Maybe next she'll say "Go Cowboys!"
