First Pediatrician Appointment

The week Emma was born we took her to her first doctor's appointment. To tell you the truth I'm surprised we made it there on time. It was our first real outing and we learned first hand how much preparation goes into leaving the house with a baby. Everyone has to be clean and dressed, Emma has to be strapped into her car seat, the car seat has to be snapped into its base, and a diaper bag has to be packed and brought along in case she needs an outfit or diaper change. No more quick trips to Target for this Mama!

Anyway, I digress. We love the clinic and her pediatrician. The clinic is cute on the inside and everyone is really friendly. It is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and same day appointments are never hard to get. It's also close to school, which is nice.

So, how did our girl do at her first appointment?

Great! The doctor answered all of our questions and took a good look at Emma, who she said was perfect. All babies lose a little weight after birth. Emma lost 4 ounces. When we took her back a few days later to have her checked for jaundice (which she didn't have) she had already gained back 2 ounces. And, when we went to see a lactation consultant the other day, she weighed 8 pounds, which is 7 ounces above her birth weight! So, all in all, she's getting enough to eat and growing. Her doctor was happy and we were too. Her next appointment is in 2 weeks when she hits a month old. That appointment should be a breeze. It's the 2 month appointment I'm dreading . It's when she starts her vaccinations. Someone might need to hold my hand and buy me a drink afterwards.
